Oxandrolone is an oral anabolic steroid derived from dihydrotestosterone. It is created with a very strong separation of anabolic and androgenic action and has no significant estrogenic or progestagenic activity. Oxandrolone is known as a fairly “mild” drug compared to other oral steroids. It was created to stimulate strength and enhance muscle tissue without significant side effects. In studies, this drug milligram by milligram demonstrates anabolic activity six times the activity of testosterone with significantly less androgenicity. This drug is a favorite among dieting bodybuilders and competitive athletes in sports that involve speed (anaerobic performance), where its ability for pure tissue building (no fat or fluid retention) is appropriate for the task at hand. Oxandrolone has a modification on carbon atom number two, where this second carbon is replaced by an oxygen atom, which is why the name “oxandrolone” has the prefix “ox”. It is also believed that this carbon atom substitution increases the anabolic capacity of oxandrolone to a large extent relative to the original hormone dihydrotestosterone.
